In the afternoon of  November 11st, 2020, in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong – General Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) had a meeting with the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) led by Head of the delegation, Ms. Rana Flowers, the Head representative of the UNICEF in Vietnam. Participants of the meeting were Mr. Pham Quang Vinh – Deputy General Director of GSO and leaders of relevant departments of GSO.

As a leading international organization in the field of promoting and protecting children’s rights, UNICEF has accompaned and supported the GSO in population, labor and environmental statistics for many years. Speeching at the meeting, on behalf of the GSO, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong expressed her thanks to UNICEF and suggested to continue to strengthen the cooperation between the GSO and UNICEF.

UNICEF said that the five-year cooperation plan with the Vietnamese  Government is being in progress and desires the GSO to identify potential areas to cooperate with UNICEF, especially issues related to women and children.

In the next 5 years, UNICEF is ready to support the GSO in updating the list of National Statistics Indicators, and also wishes the Survey on Children and Women to be added to the National Statistical Survey Program in order to collect SDG indicators on children and women. In this regards, UNICEF has the basis to provide technical assistance and budget mobilization for this survey.

At the end of the meeting, the GSO and UNICEF came to an agreement to closely cooperate, coordinate and effectively support to improve statistics quality, in order to meet international standards and needs of users. /.
