Industrial production continued to be flourish when the Covid-19 pandemic was well controlled domestically. In addition, the number of working days in January this year was higher than the previous year[1], so the industrial production index of January 2021 estimated to highly increase by 22.2% over January 2020, of which manufacturing went up by 27.2%.

The index of industrial production (IIP) in 01/2020 decreased by 3.2% over the previous month and increased by 22.2% over the same period last year, of which the manufacturing rose by 27.2%, contributing 21.6 percentage points to the overall growth; electricity production and distribution peaked up by 16.3%, contributing 1.5 percentage points; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment increased by 8.4%, contributing 0.1 percentage points; only the mining industry decreased by 6.2%, down 1 percentage point.

In 2-digit industrial activities, the index of production in January of some key activities significantly increased compared to the same period last year: Manufacture of basic metal (48.7%); manufacture of electrical equipment (42.2%); manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (38%); manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (36.9%); manufacture of furniture (34.4%); Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (32.7%); manufacture of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) (32.6%); manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c (31.7%); manufacture of paper and paper products (31.3%); manufacture of rubber and plastics products (25.9%); manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork (24.6%); manufacture of chemicals and chemical products and mining of metal ores (both 24.4%); manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products (24%). However, some industries slightly increased or decreased: Manufacture of wearing apparel; sewerage and sewer treatment activities; water collection, treatment and supply; manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products; mining of coal and lignite rose by 9.9%; 6.3%; 4.2%; 3.8%; 3.2% respectively; extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas, mining support service activities went down by 13.8% and 17.1%, accordingly.

The production of some main industrial products in 01/2021 significantly rose over the same period last year: Television (106.2%); phone accessories (71.5%); laminated steel (63.4%); crude steel, iron (38.8%); automobile (38.2%); cement (35.8%); textile fabric from natural yarn (35.6%); powder milk (31.1%); chemical paint (30.9%); fresh mink (28%); beer (24.9%); cigarettes (23%); N.P.K mixed fertilizer (22.8%); textile fabric from polyester or artificial yarn (20.4%). Compared with the same period last year, some industries slightly rose: Urea fertilizer (4.4%); running water (3.7%); pure coal (3.1%); leather footwear (3%); steel bars and corners (2.2%); monosodium glutamate (1.7%); or went down: liquidized gas (LPG) (0.1%); extracted crude oil (12.5%); natural gas (in the form of air) (15.1%); petroleum (52.4%).

 The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of 1st January, 2021 increased by 1.1% over the same period last month and decreased by 1.4% over the same period last year, of which the number of employees working in State-owned enterprises, the figure in non-state enterprises and FDI enterprises decreased by 1.7%; 2.5% and 0.8%, respectively. At that time, the number of employees working in the mining and quarrying, the manufacturing both decreased by 1.4% over the sampe period last year; the production and distribution of electricity increased by 0.5%; the water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities decreased by 1.5%.
